South Point Poker Gets Gaming Commission Approval

South Point Poker received approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission to begin operating the Silver State’s first, legal, real-money online poker operation.
South Point Ahead of the Pack
Industry observers expect South Point to get their operation online well ahead of the competition thanks to their decision to develop gaming software in-house. That meant that South Point could receive their operator, manufacturer and service provider licenses in one shot.
Other gaming companies, like MGM, are partnering with established software manufacturers and face a more challenging licensing process.
It’s been a busy summer for Nevada Gaming regulators. See what they’ve been up to on Nevada Online Poker License Update.
What’s Next for South Point?
South Point officials are hoping to have their operation up and running as soon as October. There are still a few more regulatory hurdles and tests to get through, but no one is anticipating any major problems.
The whole gaming world will be watching South Point’s progress very closely to see if intrastate gambling will live up to expectations. Despite widespread enthusiasm, no one really knows if Nevada has enough online poker players to support all the sites coming down the pipeline.
