SEO Secrets: The Old School Still Rules

No matter how complicated today’s SEO may seem, there’s no school like the old school. That’s the point Searchland.com blogger Adam Audette makes in a very interesting column titled, The Paradox of New SEO vs Old SEO.

While Audette readily acknowledges the evolution of SEO, and the impact of modern phenomena like social media and mobile, his core idea is that SEO fundamentals are the same as they’ve ever been.

Here’s a rundown of why Audette keeps kicking it old school.

Social Search

Is social search one of those ideas that looks great on paper but isn’t so hot in real life? So far, no one really knows the answer to that question.

But unless Google’s legion of devoted users can learn to change their ways, SEO based on old timey search engines are still the way to go.

Mobile

Guess who dominates mobile search? Google not only owns the mobile search market, they’re making certain that AdWords is the dominant advertising platform in that rapidly growing sector.

No matter what else happens, it seems like your AdWords skill set isn’t going to be out-of-date anytime soon.

Content is (Still) King

Bill Gates first said, “Content is king,” back in 1996 and that’s still as true today as it ever was. No matter how technical and wonky you want to get, at the end of the day, analytics don’t mean much unless there’s good content on your site.

Panda and Penguin Emphasize Fundamentals

If you scratch the surface of Google’s game changing Panda and Penguin updates you’ll find something really dull; basic SEO. Audette points out that content and links are about the most elements of SEO and that’s all Panda and Penguin emphasized anyways.

After all, have manipulative links and crummy content ever been a big hit with end-users?

Finally

Audette is anything but an SEO Luddite and he happily concedes that SEO is very fluid subject. What he doesn’t bow down to is the God of Shiny New Objects. While there’s definitely a time and place for cutting edge SEO, Audette’s point is that the fundamentals are always a good strategy.

There really is no school like the old school.
