Pokerroom.com Shuts Down… Again

PokerRoom.com shut down this week with little notice to players or the press. It’s the second time in as many years that the venerable online poker pioneer has shuttered its virtual doors, though this shutdown appears to be permanent.
Visitors to the site were surprised to find a notice, posted early this week, informing them that February 19 would be the site’s last day of operation.
Players have until March 19th to cash out the funds in their accounts. Player points, are a different story entirely. Unless those points were used before the end-of-business on February 19th, they are gone for good. Tournament tickets, however, can still be converted to cash before the March deadline.
PokerRoom.com was launched back in 1999 and was one of the first online poker sites to break out into the big time. After riding the wave of poker popularity in the early 2000’s, the site struggled to keep after the UIGEA clobbered the industry in 2006 and shut down in 2009.
Investors brought PokerRoom.com back to life in early 2012, but was unable to compete in the new, drastically different, online poker market.
PokerRoom.com is recommending PartyPoker.com as an alternative for their former players.
