Playtech beats UK sports betting odds for record Wimbledon handle

When it comes to beating the odds in UK retail sports betting, Playtech seems to have come across a winning formula. Playtech BGT Sports (PBS) is reporting record-shattering numbers as it tallies up its handle for the Wimbledon tennis tournaments earlier this month.
According to a Playtech press release, the company saw its handle for Wimbledon related wagers rise a whopping 50 percent over last year’s numbers across all its channels. Growth was especially pronounced in the mobile sector where the company clocked in an astonishing 300 percent increase over last year’s number.
Playtech officials are giving a lot of credit for the big leap in wagers to the company’s (relatively) new BetTracker app. Players who use the app can place a wager on the tournament at a retail betting shop and then track the wager on the app. Once the match is done, they can use that same app to collect their winnings.
None of Playtech’s big Wimbledon win came as a surprise to Playtech BGT Sports’ Senior Commercial Director, Lee Drabwell, who touted BetTracker saying, “While our continued growth in bets taken on our SSBTs come as no surprise, the exponential growth in popularity of our mobile- based betting was ace and knocked our forecasts out of the court. BetTracker and similar products continue to improve both user experience and operator revenues. By continuing to bring technology that is now routine online into retail estates for the first time, we are seeing greater customer adoption and the benefit of significant increased revenues for our operators.”
Playtech’s mobile innovations are helping it stay ahead of the serious revenue issues facing UK operators as UK lawmakers crack down on gambling markets and, more importantly, gambling marketing.
