Online Gambling: A Short History
Before online casino gambling was a multi-billion dollar business with outlets across the planet, it was a risky, underground venture that was anything but a guaranteed success.
Thanks to international legal pressures, few countries were willing to take a chance on this new type of casino – that’s when Antigua stepped up to the plate.
In 1994, legislators in the small Caribbean passed the Free Trade & Processing Act. This simple piece of legislation opened the door to regulated gambling for the first time ever. Antigua would eventually pay a price for supporting online gambling but back in ’94, their future was so bright, they had to wear shades.
