If you haven’t been adapting your business strategies to include mobile search, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity.

According to a new study from Neustar Localeze/15miles/comScore (as reported on SearchEngineLand.com), smart phone searches are up a whopping 26% last year, while tablet searches are up 19%.

The study, which was conducted between March 2013 and December 2013 showed that searches from smart phones grew from 90.1 million to 113.1 million over the time in question. Given the nature of the format, what they’re searching for shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Local Sees Some Action

So what is this growing legion of mobile searchers actually searching for? As it turns out, mobile searchers are incredibly utilitarian and have focused their efforts on finding things like directions, maps and restaurant reviews.

Not surprisingly, all that on-the-go searching is taking a big bite out of traditional desktop searches. That old-fashioned kind of searching is down 6% over the same period. When you’re just considering local searches, it’s down 18%.

So who’s benefiting from all this local searching? Web-based phone directories for starters. These business are rapidly picking up steam with 17% of adults citing them as their go-to sites for business listings.

What Does Mobile Search Mean for Gaming Affiliates?

A rising tide of localized, mobile searches might not seem like it means much for gambling affiliates, but it does. All those directories and Internet Yellow Pages are the perfect place to advertise to hardcore mobile users.

Mobile search users represent the vanguard of tech users and those are exactly the kind of players who happily jump on cutting edge gaming trends like in-play sports wagering.

And even if you don’t care all that much about local mobile searches, mobile search as a whole is something you can’t afford to ignore.
