Bumper Year for I.O.M. E-Gaming in in 2009

February 16, 2009 (InfoPowa News) — The Isle of Man online gambling jurisdiction reports that according to an independent survey of leading egaming companies on the island, its e-gaming sector grew by 30 percent in 2008, and has forecast growth to accelerate to 40 prcent in 2009.

Garth Kimber, head of e-gaming development at the Isle of Man’s Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), said the results of the survey conducted by the Manx e-Gaming Association (MeGA) confirm the e-gaming sector as one of the most dynamic within the Isle of Man’s growing economy.

"E-gaming in the Isle of Man is now a well-developed, highly-diverse sector," said Kimber. "Furthermore, the eight licenses approved in 2008, plus the large number of applications for licences in 2009, is a good leading indicator of the further growth we can expect to see in the future.  Businesses are coming here because the Isle of Man genuinely has much to offer.”

The chairman of MeGA, John Webster, added: “E-gaming appears to be vibrant despite the global recession.  It may be that people are opting to enjoy gaming online as an inexpensive substitute to other forms of leisure. MeGA is delighted that the Isle of Man has provided a sound base for our businesses to grow and in turn the Island has benefited from this success in terms of quality employment opportunities, GDP growth and government revenue.”
