A to Z Guide to Internet marketing strategies for poker lovers

Today we’re going to discuss Internet marketing strategies for your poker playing talent. More specifically, I’m going to give you a framework for turning your passion and expertise into an income.

If you’re a good poker player, you’ve probably wondered at some point how you can make more money from your passion and talent. It’s not hard. If you want to play full time, you can turn it into a job. But playing poker full time doesn’t leave much time for anything else. And it requires a huge investment of cash.

What you really want is the ability to make money from your talent without the need to invest a significant amount of money and time into your business. In that case, it’s time to consider Internet marketing strategies such as blogging, social media and content creation. Once you can establish yourself as an expert in your niche, the sky’s the limit.

Now you’re probably thinking, “Great, but how do I get started?”

It’s easy. Just follow one step at a time and you’ll be on your way. Here are a few steps to follow to start your content marketing career.

1)      Establish a blog. Blogs are the easiest way to establish your credibility and develop, in the words of Seth Godin, a “tribe” of followers who are interested in what you have to say. For tips and how-to’s on writing for your blog, check out Copyblogger, a great inspiration and resource for many bloggers.

2)      Build a list. Regardless of your niche, having an email list is one of the quickest ways to being able to monetize your content. If you want to solidify your reputation of delivering value for others, email can help move the conversation you’re having with your tribe to a more personal level.

3)      Go social. You’ll want to create social media profiles at Facebook, Google Plus, Twitter, LinkedIn once you’ve established your content marketing chops. Social media works best when it’s informal, fun and informative. Don’t however, go into it expecting to get right overnight. The super affiliates selling those promises are simply overselling. Stay focused on delivering value and driving people to your email list and website.

4)      Write an ebook. Don’t be intimidated. Your first ebook can be short (5-8 pages is a good start). The content is what will matter. Use your first ebook will give you an opportunity to go into depth on a particular technique, such as strategies for winning at Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournaments or how to succeed while playing at multiple online poker rooms.

5)      Coach others. If you’re good at something and you have a tribe following you, I’d bet that many of the members of your tribe would gladly pay to learn from your expertise. Develop a coaching program that helps train other players. This program can be as formal or as informal as you desire. Have a look at pokercoaching.com for an example of the kind of coaching you could do.

6)      Build an information product. You can build a subscription website that offers members valuable content in exchange for a monthly membership fee. Or you could produce a premium information product with workbooks, audio discs and video discs to share your poker skills with others.

Regardless of how you do it, you can do it. If you’re an expert poker player with a passion, I’m sure you know something that others don’t. What are you doing, or what could you do, to capitalize on that knowledge?
