Question The Clock Is Ticking .... UIGEA

Included within UIGEA is a requirement that new banking regulations be defined within 270 days from commencement. These regulations would prohibit the funding of “Internet Gambling” by players within the United States by Banks and financial institutions.

A quick check of the calendar shows the deadline being reached on approximately July 10th. What do YOU think will happen in July?

hopefully nothing too

i have a feeling it was going to arrive late anyways as there have been reports that its taking longer to finalise the legislation and sot out what exactly will be in the new law.

However iMEGA look promising - they filed to have uigea reversed or something http://igamingnews.com/index.cfm?pag...d=7613&k=imega

and if accepted, it will delay UIGEA for a while - hopefully many months at least if it doesnt end up succeeding

I will be gratefull for each passing week / month past the deadline anyways

That damn "Immigration Law" is taking so much attention and focus away from anything else right now, that it's hard to see what is going to happen with this law.

Hopefully nothing....

July 10th it will be on the agenda, but whether or not it is more important that other acts being discussed and decided on is another issue. It's a classic case of "you'll just have to wait".

I can't wait for it to be settled either way... Obviously I hope it goes our way

Not a GD thing,

It will come and go with no avail. Not like a certain day will come and the lights will be shut out. If anything is implemented it will be over time. Around this time we may learn how intent they are about the potential ISP bans though. I doubt they will happen either. That will open the door for a definitive censorship lawsuit.

that finally got defeated today so that's off the table till perhaps the 2009 election.

I would say the banks get an extension to implement any new banking regulations.

My guess is that there will be another bust of some sort to provide a scare tactic, since that is all the government is equipped to do at this point. UIGEA is technically unenforceable at this time. I'm hoping that the WTO issue will add heat to this issue, but I expect, in true Bush fashion, for just some more scare tactics and busts, to keep Kyle, Goodlatte, and team looking as though they are looking out for the welfare of society, and to make it look like UIGEA is being enforced. What great leadership we have, eh ?

I'd say nothing also. If the banks were able to do anything more by now, then they would've.
