help site colors..dark or light ?

Hi Guys,

Do you think dark sites or light (white) sites are easier to read/convert better/ look better?? I know what i want for my layout and logo color, and it would work with both black or white themes, just would like to hear what you guys think. Any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

it all comes down to readability. dark colors can be moer dramatic, but get ready for complaints from your older users / people with eye trouble, etc...

bottom line = go for usability, or face a big big rebuild just when you thought it was time to relax ....

trust me...

I say it depends on the site you're building. For younger users, I tend to use dark colors because they seem to like them better.

For a general audience I say use lighter read colors and make things easy to read. Also use less flash, try to use logo's and slower moving banners.

That is a very good point. Blunt - but good.

I asked because I see a lot of successful sites with dark colors, wanted your opinion's, and I appreciate all of your votes and comments! Thanks!

Hi Pete!

I definitely go with the popular vote of light colours and clean layout!
Of course, there is always room for variants, but legibility is so very key as others have mentioned.

The most exciting thing for me is when I come across a new site that has a really clean, consistent, and well organized presence. These have GENERALLY been ones with lighter consistent colour combinations, but there are definitely exceptions. No one likes to look at a flashing neon rainbow theme with too much text.

Some of the more difficult ones with dark colour schemes have had dark writing like red and green times new roman on a black backgrounds...my poor poor eyes! (and I'm not OLD! hahaha)

I think it's important to balance out content with visuals. So if you have a ton of content, you can still make it visually manageable by keeping your colours/layout basic and clean...and vice versa.

Love the name by the way. Good luck PistolPete!

-Carol.

I think light colors are usually best. but it depends on your target audience. people that play bonus slots tend to be older and may not like dark colors than say, poker players which tend to be younger from what I 've heard.
Personally, I hate sites that use a black background.

That is exactly what I was going to say!

I hate dark background too, and I remember back when I hated white backgrounds, maybe if they changed per time of day? :P

I used to actually override them years ago, burned my tired website building till 8 am eyes!

For casino and poker dark (not too dark) colors (including black, red, green etc.) and for bingo - pink

Cater to the needs of your crowd...
