Okay ladies and gents – Here is my idea for getting our forums started.
What I am looking for – 5-10 people that have got new forums that need a boost in activity.
Right so here is the idea:
We form a collective of 5-10 people that sign-up to each others forums.
Each member of the group then posts 3 messages on each forum, 5 days a week (you can choose what days to post). That means that you will be posting 15 messages per forum, per week. So if we have 5 to 10 members you will be posting 75-150 message a week. (yes it is a lot, we can refine how we do things the furthur we go into this)!
Posts do not have to be long, but you must get involved and participate in discussion, create discussion and interest.Considering everyone will be posting to each others forums, your forum will be getting anywhere from 75-150 messages a week. Fresh content for google and for your users!
Right so that is about it really! I have setup a google group: http://groups.google.com/group/Forum-Posters Please sign-up there, send me a pm if you have any troubles. It will be first come first served. So if you are member number 11, then you will have to wait for someone to leave before you can become a forum poster.
What are your requirements:
1. Post 3 messages, 5 times in a week to each members forums. (You do not have to post monday-friday, you can choose what days you want to post, so you have 2 days off).
2. Check on google groups for the latest forums that are on the list. (once we get going I do not imagine that this will change much).
3. There will be a list of usernames on the google group forums, you can use this list to see if each poster has posted his/her 15 messages a week. (Everyone will be responsible to monintor their own forums).
4. The week will run from Monday-Sunday.
5. If you stop posting you get dropped and then the next person on the bottom of the list gets let in. If you are going away then let us know. You will probably be put to the bottom of the list and then you will come back in later.
6. No duplicate content posting. Like I said, this is to help get our forums going so good content is a real bonus.
7. If the rules are to be changed then we all agree on them. Or at least 51%. (i.e. if we want to change the number of posts that are made per week, or if someone needs to get booted because they are messing around, etc, etc).
8. You obviously need to appear to be a normal/regular user and not part of the forum posters group.Ok so the ideas are there… As we go we can refine all of this stuff. But I think it would be great to have 7 people posting on my forums regularily and then spread the love by posting on theirs.
Key benefits: 1. When a user comes in, he/she will see that the forum is active. 2. Google, MSN, search engines will love you for more content. 3. Gogle, MSN, search engines will love you for having new content everyday! 4. You get a good community feeling and will get to know people that are in the same industry as their sites grow.
That’s it… enough writting. If you like it then sign-up to google-groups, pm me, whatever.
If you have any ideas/comments/suggestions post it here.
December 4, 2005 at 7:54 pm #677832AnonymousInactivebtw, I am going to try and manage this by myself to begin with. So please be gentle with me. I am not in this to try and take anyone for a ride. I want this to work and I think that it could benefit everyone.
Hey maybe with time we can rotate the management amongst our members. I imagine though that after 3-6months that the intial members will have left as their forums will be successful. Let’s see how it goes.
December 4, 2005 at 9:28 pm #677834AnonymousInactiveGreat idea
Just one thought: I have 2 forums (one is existed and one I set up in the upcoming days). Can this system handle it?
December 4, 2005 at 10:45 pm #677839AnonymousInactivewell the system is not automated or anything it is all done manually by all members.
In reply to the question about 2 forums, I would recommend that you start with one. Otherwise you would have to make 6 posts a day to each forum. And imho that is too much to do.
So yeah start with 1… and then we see how it goes.
Thanks for the ‘great idea’ remark.
Please sign-up to google groups and we can start to get a chat going about it there…. We only need a few members to get it going.

December 6, 2005 at 1:08 am #677915AnonymousInactiveI am interested as well… However, I am still in the process of starting up my forums. Might take me a while as my time has been limited lately
December 6, 2005 at 1:36 am #677917AnonymousInactiveJust an update from me!
There is lots of people that are joining and have joined already. There are a few things I want you to know first if you want to join or already are a member:
1. This is going to be extra work for you! If you have to deliver 15 messages a day for 5 days a week, that is something like 5 hours extra work A WEEK, with no reward other than you getting the equal ammount of posts back onto your forums!
2. If your forums look really bad, i.e too many banners, no effort gone into them at all, don’t bother joining. This is not a training course into how to get forums going. This is to make your forums look busy. Members will need to be creative when posting on your forums, but they are not going to do all the work for you! You need to lead the way on your forum by posts interesting articles to discuss, topics, interest, etc. Look at what the professor does here…
Sorry if you think I sound a little harsh, but before we get started it is important that everyone knows this is a commitment to all the other people around you, as well as to yourself. This is going to take work, but the benefits could really be great! My theory is that if you haven’t put in enough work to make your forums look nice, perfectly user-friendly, no broken links, etc, etc… then why are you going to put in the work to benefit someone else’s forum?
That is my little piece… for now………
Also this is OUR project… So help me out once we get things going in terms of management. I had the idea, that is all, I don’t need another big job on my hands to run this entire thing. Any volunteers to share the work load, let me know!
Hope it all makes sense and that I haven’t offended anyone. Just putting my view accross in what I think it will take for our forums to make it. I want everyone in this to be commited to their sites/forums and everyone elses. By being a tight community we will suceed!
December 11, 2005 at 5:02 am #678340AnonymousInactivebump… anyone else interested? We have 5 members and are doing really well so far. If anyone wants to join pm me or sign-up at the website
December 11, 2005 at 7:36 pm #678355AnonymousInactiveI’ll give it a shot.. membership pending.
