This could be a nice money maker for someone.

I spend way too much time looking for content theft of my site, and dealing with it once found is a pain.

    Anyway of automating that?

Anyway of doing it for many sites?

Anyway of paying someone to go after the bastards?

If someone would start a service that protected registered websites, I bet customers would be lining up to get in.

And not just in this industry – webwide!

The only problem is see with that is….

The Mob Effect… Pay for protection from those who are doing the deed :) It lends itself to a lot of abuse..

It would be good if it were a trusted – semi-anonymous person being the ‘protector.’

I am thinking of a service that somehow automates the search for dupes and notifies us, and a lawyer who will allow us to have “insurance” for such incidents for a nominal fee.

When the service finds a dupe, the lawyer takes the steps to stop it.

Ah… Great idea Dom! I do like that one. Less chance for abuse and a perfect way to go after someone the correct, legal, way.

I bought a domain name for exactly this purpose a few years back, but the project is still on my rather long wishlist.
If someone else is interested, maybe I’ll part with ProtectYourContent.com

(It currently redirects to my former software company, which is completely unrelated.)

Great idea! You know how much I want to go online and take care of all the rips that have happened to me? If I could hire someone that would be so sweet!
Count me in on this and its possible if you work something out with copyscape for the automation part of it

I could check with Larry the lawyer about the legal aspect.

    He does online copyright law…

I’ve never used http://www.copyscape.com but it sounds like the kind of service that you’re looking for.

Dominique you know my feelings towards this subject. I am totally up for a the challenge. Content thieves located in China on a Chinese servers are the ones i have the most problems with.

Have you ever considered going cold fusion and bulid or purchase your own cold fusion server? Its a tuff sytem to crack.

For copywright laws this is a given. Most people do not realize this but if its your domain your content it belongs to you. I believe it is 100% protected by default. There is no need to even put the little copywright symbol on your page.

Well if my site ever gets finished. I will persuing this problem with vengence. I could probably help you out a little, a couple hours a day. greek39

that copyscape.com does pretty much do the job…and its coded quite nicely and displays what exactly is copied, quite the useful site i think and the nice thing it automatically monitors the net for whenever a copy of your page comes up…provided you pay the 9.95$…….the only thing they dont do that was mentioned is the “going after the bad guy” part….still a good idea to me

Even with Copyscape doing it I need to hire someone hahaha. I am so far behind its sad sad.
The 2’nd part to this is getting them to take the stuff off their site.

Have you gave a thought to how much the service will charge? I am sure no exact figures but do you think it would be monthly or a flat fee?

Probably monthly. Right now I am waiting for a reply.

The 2’nd part to this is getting them to take the stuff off their site.

Phoning them direct in conjunction with getting affiliate programs to suspend their accounts tends to work and works quickly in getting them to remove the stolen content. Failing that, contacting their hosts works as well. Legal recourse should be the last point of action – It is costly afterall.

However, I am very interested in pooling resources and would be more than happy to contribute monthly or quarterly towards some kind of scheme.
