What makes a good SportsBook ?
Is there anyone out there considering marketing Sports gambling alongside their Poker and Casino offerings ?
I've fallen into the business the other way - coming from a Sports gambling background - and only slowly moving into Poker and Casinos.
So if you are thinking about it - here is what I've learnt so far.
I've tended to market Sportsbooks that are Internationally focused, with plenty of offers on the major soccer action around the world.
However, I've also noticed a growing interest in gambling on specific "brand events" like Wimbledon (Tennis), US Open and British Open (Golf) and the NBA and MLB finals once they start dominating Television.
Bookmakers like LADBROKES, and BET365 are popular in Europe becuase they have a good "bricks and mortar" backing which gives confidence.
However, online only organisations like INTERWETTEN (Austria/Cyprus), GAMEBOOKERS (Antigua), and EUROBET (Gibraltar) are proving popular too.
I haven't yet branched into Costa Rican based bookmakers yet - it seems harder to get a handle on their long term history ... and their American sports focus doesn't fit with my line ... but has anyone got a favourite?
(I'd love to learn)
The good news for promotors (affiliates) is that it seems there is a little bit of negotation available with most outfits. So while a profit share component is the main target you can generally also negotiate a fixed monthly tenancy too - sort of an active advertising fee.
However, Sports Gambling does bring is a different crowd, and generally if you are going to be successful with advertising promotions you do also need to work on providing regular, relevant and updated content.
The rewards can be very very good though ... and branching into this is worth consideration if you follow a particular sport or can syndicate a weekly column. It's worth a thought.
Any questions or advice out there ?
Cheers,
Paul (The Gooner)
