Hi guys,
Really in a hurry here and need a quick info regarding the use of getty images.
I want to use getty images to add to my posts on a soccer statistics website.
The question is that is it OK to download the images with the Getty Image and code watermark and it to the post? Or should I use the embed code offered by them?
I mean I don’t mind and really want to give credit to the owner so the code and getty image logo doesn’t bother me on the photo, but is it legal or not?
This is a post I’ve recently submitted and has the example I’m talking about.

If you are using Getty images then you should follow their instructions to the letter.
They are well known for chasing / suing websites that are using their content in the incorrect manner – usually chasing a minimum price of around $2K per image.
They also use robots to look for similar matches or pictures on the web, and this can produce false positives, but it does not stop them from acting in a very law suit happy manner. We ran into an issue with affiliate banners we were displaying that contained portions of some of their images, and it took quite some effort and discussion for Getty to accept that the banners were legitimate 3rd party use of banners created by a legal licensee.
If you require clarification about using a different approach to display images then you should go directly to Getty Images, and keep a copy of all correspondence safe. Getting advice here without OK from Getty Images will not be much help.
Don’t steal images. Even with the watermark on it, it’s still stealing. Always pay for the licensing.
Even those thumbnails on your site should be licensed. I once paid getty $45 to license an image of Lindsey Vonn just for one month. You cannot be cheap if you hope to be successful in media. Otherwise you won’t go anywhere. They know who you are.
The embed code is probably OK to use in your case.

Thank you for your reply. Talked to one of their advisors and they said the watermark would be fine, but doing it in a professional manner would be to embed.
That is the way we are going to go.
