As we all know, things in the iGaming industry (and online marketing world) are in constant perpetual motion- changing all of the time. Do you ever catch yourself reflecting on the “Good Old Days?” You know, the times of the Wild West where competition ceased to exist and it felt like the money making opportunities were endless???

The question of the hour… What is it that you miss the most from when you first started in the industry? Could be from 2 years ago to 10 years ago.

I miss blindly, and naively starting new projects all the time, and seeing them succeed! Now days you have to be methodical!
I also miss being able to stay awake for 2-3 days at a time and slam out a project!

Yes, it was much easier in the good old days. Now any schmuck with an internet connection can be up and running in less than an hour.

But now – also, if you have a new stupid idea or act crazy enough in a video you could go viral (not very likely, but still possible).

Just wanted to do a bump on this thread… Would love to get insight on what the community misses from the “Good Old Days…”

I miss the days when Affiliate managers would arrange special trips to bring together their top performing affiliates on a special full day trip. Casino Coins was one of the first and there trips were eventful like a half day helicopter and ride and picnic in the Grand Canyon or a weekend of golf and sailing in Antigua.

These trips were so helpful in cementing good relationships with not only the Aff programs but also other affiliates. These trips were far more beneficial and fun than any trade show I have been too.

    Ah the good ole days…………

I miss the old “google dance” , when , about once every month, google updated their index, so exciting, lolol, and you never where pulled down like 300 spots like these days.

Also things were easier, rel=”nofollow” didn’t exist and the green toolbar pr was a real signal

I miss the days visiting CAP was a “must” every day, otherwise you couldn’t follow the soap, and CAP didn’t need mods to start discussions and had to write “woulde be” articles

I miss the Captain’s posts.. :cappy:

I miss the call for the cabbage (don’t we have a cabbage emoticon?)

I started out as a gambler, so I would really like the days back when I could play at Crown Games with a 100% match bonus and a 4x wagering requirement. That was easy money!

I miss gifts from affiliate programs – times have really changed.

I remember my weeks and weekends were spent like this sometimes.
    – Pepsi Max for sustenance
    – Jello for dessert
    – Pizza for lunch and dinner

I would sit in my condo, and I wouldn’t answer the buzzer, I would pretend I wasn’t home. Aircon on, hoodie up, headphones on, corner lamp on, powering through code and talking with designers. I would venture out once or twice a week to see my folks or a girlfriend, return and power through more code and work.

Bonustreak and I used to spend hours on the phone swapping ideas, talking, finding ways to take over the world (very much like pinky and the brain)

I still brainstorm with a few people, its great to find someone on the same page as you, where you urge each other on.

I miss the usa market huge. The days when programs greeted you with open arms and honored commitments versus look for ways to increase profits and that does not include yours are long gone.

I miss the days og seeing a side project site go from 0 to #1 or #2 on google for no reason.

I miss NETELLER — How nice was it to have all your banking in spot, with afiliate names listed. And it was all free with ACH to my bank that was also free.

I miss the Freedom in the US to gamble, not only did our revenue suffer I miss playing playtech and Micro games.

People – So many people in the industry are ufortunately gone now, some I am still shocked stepped out to early in my opinion :(

Last thing, I miss learning how to do web pages, lol I had not a clue when i started, and it was fun to learn every day. Now I spen all my time fixing bad code i made years ago during that process.

I miss the US market – I used to work on the operator side pre UIGEA and run ads on Casino.com (when it was a portal) – used to get a huge ROI promoting Microgaming casinos.

Stupidly enough, I never went into the affiliate side of the business until last year :( I kick myself every day for that!

I had a good think on this one.

What I think I miss the most is the collective way affiliates stood together on issues several years back. There was a time when it appeared several hundred people were logged in at one time and it took several hours to read and reply to all the posts.

During that time affiliates knew one another and stood up and spoke together on issues.

More or less now it appears more and more everyone is a bit isolated – I do not personally feel the community atmosphere I once did.

I think a cool CAP “Winter” break is in order.. LOL – get some fun times back to the table.

YES! That will still happen we just have to work harder now :)

I miss starting my day with a cup of coffee & chatting to so many affiliate managers at once I was on a constant buzz of adrenaline .. I miss that must multi task mode. Times were super busy you had to work fast and get the deals out before your competitors.

    I miss Neteller
I miss my money QT stole

I miss the wicked parties we use to have but to be honest maybe those crazy times coming to an end is a good thing for my health :)

I Miss Ted, Lou & The Captain, those three men created a lot of history in the iGaming affiliate world.

I miss the affiliate unity we once had and most of all I miss the trust I had in affiliate programs.
