Pop-up add question
I recently started as an affiliate with an online casino. As I was looking on Google at some of the top affiliate sites, I noticed something that concerned me. A few of the sites (on first page search result on Google for casino related phrases) used pop-ups to launch the casinos that they were advertising when a web surfer visited their site. Is this a common practice and does it work? It would seem that once they launched the links to the casinos, they would get credit for the referral even if the web surfer signed up at a later date at a different site. Am I missing something here? I'm pretty new at this and still trying to figure things out.

Hi Acekicker
It depends on the casino - some use a cookie system that means the first visit is always credited even if the user disappears then comes back from another site. Others do it on a site-by-site basis so whichever affiliate link you clicked from to sign up, that session determines the affiliate.
I dont know the list of who does what i'm afraid though.
Cheers

Some also used time limited cookies - they expire after a certain time. Some use overwriteable ones - unless the visitors stops by some place else and clicks he stays yours.

A lot of the larger casino sites use pop ups and that is mainly becuase pop ups (despite how much we hate those buggers) get a lot more click throughs than any other form of advertising.
Some sites will use cookies (which are 100% harmless and are easy to deny or delete) to track how many times they've showed you the same popup, so that they can show you different popups each time you come to their website.
The affiliate program would credit the person that sent the person and made them sign up in the same visit :PLast edited by jocelyn; 12-19-2004 at 03:34 AM.
