Here’s a fun fact that was given by Rand Fishkin of SEOmoz.org.

StumbleUpon now sends 1/6th the traffic Google sends each day every month. Have a look at this article for more info and the traffic graph. How many affiliate marketers in gaming are actually using this tool to boost traffic? :huh2:

It’s interesting that they are driving that kind of traffic (hard to believe really). We used StumbleUpon a year or two ago and did get decent traffic for a few days, but none (as in zero, zilch, nada) of it converted.

At one point a couple years ago I was getting a decent amount of stumbleupon traffic as well, a few hundred visitors per month, even when my site was not ranking anywhere, and really the only traffic besides stumbleupon was bots.

The site was not making players until other traffic sources clicked in though, unfortunately..

I think a few yrs ago social marketing was not as important as it is today, we are going with the trend and plan to use stumble and many others.

What I think happens in Stumble Upon is once you add your page you get a tonne of hits because that page is in the main ‘index’ where people are just stumbling.

Then after a day (or an hour) you’re off then main ‘index’ and might get an occasional hit

unless you rank for searches in stumble.. I used to be #1 for people searching “online casino” and for about half a year.. as I mentioned though it didnt make players.. perhaps it is making players now though.. will have to give it a little more attention I think.. :)

I would be interested to hear if you see any change in results from a couple years back to now in terms of converting traffic.

I wonder if marketers should pay attention to some of the other social bookmarking sites as well?

I have never thought about using StumbleUpon and unless you have something that is front page news you probably won’t see much traffic, same with Digg.

I think the reason for that kind of traffic is that lots of web2 website have integrated the StumbleUpon button on their sites and marketeres are pressing it to submit new content to StumbleUpon website

I’m wondering if stumble upon traffic equates to sales style traffic, or just surfing around looking at stuff? – ala wikipedia.

Whatever traffic i can get, i’m all for it :D

Hi Guys – Can someone shed some light on how to utilize stumble upon properly to drive traffic to a website? What strategy do you use? I am currently running a sports news website with lots of quality daily updates news? Can I submit my rss feed to stumble upon or how does this work?

    Thanks for your help

    Peter
