Google is a search engine. Wrong. Google is a reputation management tool and what you don’t know could be costing you dearly.

    What do you think ?

Google works like a search engine but the truth is that Google is not like others currently available!

Google is indeed a reputation management system and reputation is Google’s Key Element when giving a website value and choosing where they should be placed when searches are performed….

Search Engine Optimization really isn’t new. To get one’s name out there, to get on the almighty first page of Google, and to direct traffic to one’s Web site isn’t new either; it’s the lengths to which we all now go

People need to realise that these days reputation is everything in Big G’s eyes and failing to pick up on this point will mean webmasters are spending countless hours putting in hard work on old techniques and not get any further success etc!

So does google measure this reputation?

Yes Google does………. for example who you are partnered with, twitter (who you friends are), Google profile (who you associated with) and many more similar things!!!

Reputation is currently being used by Google and will be their main Key element among others……

For this reason many websites who did have a great Google position have dropped back and the websites with better reputation have gone forward!

    Kind regards, Josh

Not sure that Google is about reputation management, that’s what social media sites are more geared toward. To me the better way to think about Google is in regard to relevance. Relevance is what is constantly evolving at Google.

    The Evolution of Relevance

    1) Your website ranks simply for the content found on a page. SEOs quickly figure out that stuffing keywords into titles, copy and alts as well as adding repetitive keyword text that is the same color as the background works to get rankings.

    2) Google creates an algorithm that uses backlinks as a means for ranking sites. SEOs create link farms, crappy directories, lame links of all sorts to get their sites ranked.

    3) Google creates a PageRank system for measuring a page’s authority so that now an authoritative link equals X number of crappy links. SEOs find higher quality websites with equivalent PR to trade links with to help their rankings.

    4) Google modifies this approach by placing websites into related neighborhoods. SEOs continue trading links, but only with other websites in their industry for rankings.

    5) Google places a higher importance on one-way links. SEOs turn to 3 way link exchanges, social media sites and buying links to improve rankings.

This is where the Google/SEO relationship is at today. It’s all about relevance and whatever makes the most sense for relevance in the future is what Google will do. Some ideas that Google and SEOs have thrown out for the next evolutionary steps:

    – Page Load Speed
    – Bounce Rate
    – Time on Site
    – Pages per Visit

Google announced that reputation since Nov 09 has been playing a Key Element to where a website will rank!

Google intend to keep it one of the Key Elements Also in the future……

    Bounce rate is nasty.

Google wants to see the visitor stay on the landing page as long as possible.

I want them to find what they came for at a glance, click on it and be gone.

Not trying to nit pick the post but I’ve seen content pages not even promoting their targeted keywords, which resulted in an instant “back button” click to the second serp result stay atop #1 for years for monthly 6 figure keywords. I don’t think time on site, or bounce rates apply as much as many believe.

Google is an advanced organization system that tries to simplify the amount of noise we are exposed to.

Google is dewey decimal on meth.

Google is a broker that buys and sells the commodity of our attention.

    Google is a voyeur.

Google is a building in Mountain View with a bomb cafeteria.

Google is an exit strategy for good business ideas.

Google is a trap set up by the Illuminati to distract the best minds in the world with competing for the elusive #1 position, thus allowing them to take over the world.

Google is a surrogate father that we ask questions to and get responses that seem relevant but most of the time don’t make complete sense.

Google is a spell check that asks “did you mean ___”.

Google is a company set up to fund unappreciated artists by letting them take a stab at rendering the 6 letters of their name.

Google is a simple way to find the worlds worst computer viruses, just search “porn” and click on any of the top results.

I was saying that these are things that might be considered in the future, not that they are being used now. Both Bounce Rate and Time on Site are tough to consider due to how they are measured, eg: a user lands on your home page but doesn’t click into any sub-pages, but moves onto another site. In this instance, Google doesn’t know if you came to the page and spent 30 minutes reading it, got exactly what you needed and moved on, or if you saw the page for 1 second and got the heck out of there.

Clearly Time on Site and Bounce Rates are good indicators of a websites quality, but with Blogs for example the goal is to give a user all the information they need on a single page, so this metric would discount their value, which is why I don’t think Google is using these metrics today.
