Online Advertising Segment Growing at an Enormous Rate; Historic Opportunities for Affiliate Marketers

    From the CAP News page:

November 5, 2009 (CAP Newswire) — As more and more online users interact with the Internet via their iPhones and other mobile devices, it makes sense that many online marketers are also ramping up their spend on mobile advertising to reach those consumers.

In fact, mobile online advertising spending is predicted to grow a whopping 15 percent over the course of the next year. “Sixty percent of non-mobile marketers plan to launch mobile advertising efforts in 2010,” states Fierce Mobile Content, reporting from Millennial Media’s new State of the Industry report, “with 31 percent of agency respondents stating they will invest between $100,000 and $249,000 on their campaigns.”

“Roughly 15 percent of respondents tell Millennial Media they will invest more than $1 million on mobile advertising in 2010, with 2.6 percent projecting mobile ad spend greater than $5 million.” (Read that report here.)

Granted, this research is from companies that are looking to increase mobile advertising for their own goals — but the numbers still make sense, and the trend is undeniably there. And these online marketing companies have unearthed some pretty eye-raising data: “The number of texts sent and received every day exceeds the Earth’s population!” reports the Niche Focus Group via a press release from Reuters. “It took radio 38 years to reach 50 million people, yet Facebook added 100 million users in less than 9 months! If Facebook were a country, it would be the fourth largest country in the world.” (Is that laying it on a bit thick? Might that actually underline the fact that social media is something of a temporary fad? Read the press release here and judge for yourself.)

So what’s this all mean for the world of affiliate marketing? How can online gambling affiliates take advantage of these new opportunities, and make sure they follow the trends to their advantage? The most obvious answer is a continued focus on social media — sites like Facebook and Twitter are driving the switch to mobile, and integrating these sites into your online marketing efforts now seems to be more important than ever.
