Pro-Gambling Senator Appointed in Florida
New Florida Senator George LeMieux Likely to Support Menendez Poker Bill
From the CAP News page:
September 9, 2009 (CAP Newswire) -- Regardless of their chances for success — which unfortunately appear to be less and less likely as the year draws to a close and the larger financial crisis dominates the headlines — the two pro-online gambling bills now in the U.S. Congress are themselves signs of a warming legal mood towards the industry.
And the bill in the Senate that seeks to fully legalize online poker, introduced by New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez, has likely just picked up an important supporter. Florida’s Governor Charlie Crist has just appointed pro-gambling politician George LeMieux to the U.S. Senate. LeMieux is filling the seat recently vacated by Mel Martinez.
“LeMieux has been working hand in hand with Governor Crist on a gambling compact with the Seminole Indians in Florida,” writes Larry Rutherford on Casino Gambling Web. “Now, LeMieux will take his pro-gambling views to the US Senate.”
