Leading software provider extends partnership with comic book entertainment company

    From the CAP Newswire:

June 22, 2009 (CAP Newswire) — Continuing to build on the incredible popularity of all things Marvel, gaming software developer CryptoLogic has announced the extension of its exclusive licensing agreement with the company, officials recently announced.

Under the terms of this extension, CryptoLogic will retain the exclusive rights to create and distribute Internet casino games based on Marvel’s comic book characters through 2013.

This marks the third such contract extension for the two companies, who have enjoyed great success bringing some of the comic book world’s most popular characters — including Spider-Man, Hulk, the X-Men, and many more — to the world of online gambling.

“CryptoLogic’s exclusive partnership with Marvel has been daringly different for our industry — as together we have brought some of the world’s favourite characters to the world’s top Internet casinos,” said Brian Hadfield, CryptoLogic’s President and CEO. “It’s exciting to extend a deal that has been mutually successful and profitable, and to strengthen CryptoLogic’s competitive advantage in the branded gaming space. We look forward to working with Marvel to deliver an even more compelling experience for every player, every day.”

Since 2005, CryptoLogic has launched more than 17 slot games featuring classic Marvel Super Heroes. That’s an impressive addition to the company’s stable of more than 280 total games. CryptoLogic has earned rave reviews from industry peers, recently taking home the 2009 Gambling Online Magazine’s Top Casino Software award for the fourth consecutive year.

It was a masterstoke of PartyGaming in securing a number of the Marvel slot games for their PartyCasino brand. CryptoLogic’s Marvel deal has got to be one of the most significant developments in the history of igaming. Marvel is one of the most popular brands on the planet these days, and igaming is one of the most recession resistant industries in the world. The game tie ins with mainstream brands make good business sense. Virgin Games was able to leverage of the strength of their parent company, Virgin Enterprises Limited, and recently Virgin Games secured ‘Transformers’, plugging into the release of the new ‘Transformers’ movie, as mixed as the movie reviews are. This recent business deal with CryptoLogic and Marvel should see them weather the world’s financial storm better than many in this industry, and PartyGaming and Virgin Games appear to be in this business for the long haul also. I’m interested to see what Calvin Ayre and the team at Bodog may come up with as they continue to ramp up things building upon the lucrative and igaming friendly UK igaming landscape. If I was to place a bet Iron Man II will come with another online slot game release. That’s part of the beauty of the Marvel brand… there’s always more characters and product lines, and the online casino games have proven to be a bit money spinner for them. Something tells me that Marvel icon Stan Lee might know a thing or two about it also. Art meets motion pictures and the online gambling business… that’s a hard formula to top.
