New U.S. Attorney General May Not Be Good News
NFL and Justice Department associations may indicate little sympathy for online gambling
From the CAP News page:
December 30, 2008 (InfoPowa News) -- The United States' incoming Obama Administration's announcement that Eric Holder is to be appointed Attorney General of the United States may moderate expectations that the new president might take a more liberated approach to Internet gambling.
Although well qualified professionally for the post, Holder's past associations with lobbyists for the powerful and vehemently anti-online gambling National Football League, and service in a U.S. Department of Justice that has proved to be strongly opposed to Internet gambling, are not encouraging indicators.
Holder was Deputy Attorney General to Janet Reno, and moved on from that post to join Washington lobbyist law firm Covington and Burling, which was recently in the news when it was revealed that its former lobbyist, William Wichterman, had been a key driver in pushing the UIGEA regulations through in a 'midnight drop' operation. Wichterman had worked on the NFL account for the company during his employment there, raising questions of a conflict of interest which were brushed aside by the Bush White House.
Like Wichterman, the National Football League was one of the accounts on which Holder worked during his tenure at Covington and Burling.
Observers have also pointed to Holder's Department of Justice involvement in the past, suggesting that this is not a good harbinger for the future, given the Department's entrenched and at times inequitable policies in online gambling prosecutions and legislative views.Nathan - CasinoAffiliatePrograms.com Staff - 12-30-2008 01:49 PM #2Moderator - Big Kahuna

Change, huh?
As an Obama skeptic from the go, this news doesn’t surprise at all. Check the company the man keeps: Drug Warrior Biden, homophobe Rick Warren, and now Holder. Should’ve gone third-party, folks:

On the other hand, Paddy Power’s got “Online Gambling legalized” at 6-1, tied with “Capture of Osama bin Laden” for second-likeliest, in the “What will happen 1st under President Obama” prop bet. Shortest odds are on “Full Troop withdrawal from Iraq” at 2-5.
On the other other hand, the Paddy also has “Legalisation of Marijuana” at 12-1 and that just ain’t gonna happen with Joe “I Invented The Drug Czar” Biden as VP, so the book may merely be blowing smoke up our collective ass at 6-1.

plus Holder is a push over as he demonstrated when he helped pardoned Marc Rich. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing since this time Obama will have to push him over. Since O will most likely do nothing though I think Holder won't do anything affecting this either.
