No, it’s not exaggerated. Voting for a presidential election often sucks. if the voter turnout in your precinct gets good you can be stuck waiting in line for hours. In my old precinct back in Ann Arbor, you’d have at least a 1 hour wait during midday and people who tried to vote after work would often spend 3 or 4 hours in line.

Some of it’s lack of equipment, but they also lack staff and they have no management involved. So you end up with with elderly people with bad vision are looking up names on pages of computer printouts while the younger folk are left handing out “I Voted” stickers at the end of the line.

Finally the ballots are large, in michigan i have 25 different offices to vote for, many on a “non-partisan” ballot. The whole “non-partisan” ballot is a sham, the parties nominate candidates and the run, without their party being noted, so voting straight party still leaves you with 7 offices, plus 4 ballot initiatives. In Canada they had a national election last week and you voted by chosing 1 name for 1 office, MP. check the box. American’s get to vote on everything, but it makes voting harder. That’s 1 reason for having early voting, mail-in voting, etc.

I’m also doing the Mail in Ballot early and I’m praying that it’s a safe place and get counted so that I don’t have to do the standing in line routine.

Now days the GOP has protestors showing up at the voting places somewhere down south because they are mad about additional spots or days being offered to voters.
