Default Your top 10 sports betting SEO terms

I am very interested to know what you would consider your top ten of the most important sportsbook SEO terms.

    Here are mine;

    Sports Betting
    Sportsbooks
    Online Sportsbook
    Online Sports Betting
    Sports Bet
    Online Sportsbooks
    Free Bets
    Online Betting
    Online Bets
    Betting Odds

Of course everyone has their own opinion on what are good key terms but I would like to open a discussion on this.

Completely different approach taken over here.

My best words are much longer tailed and very event specific. They only catch for around 24 hours prior to the match - but you can be sure that the punter is interested in that specific event.

    Agree with Paul -

The average sportsbook punter cares more about finding a winning bet than finding a great site to bet at.

Paul thank you for your comments and I actually agree date specific search terms for special events work and they work well.

Richard what kind of terms do you target when your say the punter tries to find the actual bets more than the sportsbook.

Hi Simon.. Firstly, I would say that the content should more focused on what info the punter needs to decide a) if they will have a bet and if so b) what they will bet on

Once you have helped them with the above and they have decided upon their bet then they will be looking for c) the best odds on their bet

At which stage most sites will lose the traffic to an odds comparison site. (unless they have odds comparison built into their site using an affiliate progam like www.valuechecker.co.uk where they earn through their own affiliate links!!)

The actual key words you use will depend on the content you have of course. But typically things like "best bets on..." "....preview" etc. will drive the right traffic to those pages.

    Richard,

    Thank you for your comments.

When you say the keywords you target are 'bets on ....' and '.... preview', can you please elaborate and give me a working example of the '.... preview' search phase.

I do believe giving the punter the information needed to make an informed bet helps conversions 100 times greater than a simple link, yet I noticed some of the most successful affiliates I work with in this area have little knowledge of sports betting and know how to target the key phases.

For another odds comparison I worked on one called www.sbrtools.com which is worth checking out.

SEO is a very subjective and competitive area, particularly in this arena. I am currently putting into place an SEO strategy for our company that essentially:

    * Offers accessible, informative and relevant content based on what would appeal to our target customer (i.e. an exchange player)
    * Ensures the copy is obviously littered with high-traffic terms that are specific to our business and major sports/events (Research is key here and online search engine tools that help give an idea of volume)
    * All title and description tags to be unique relating to the content (basic but it still amazes me how many sites do not do this)
    * Most importantly of all - how linkable is this content and what will we do on-page to ensure people do link to this page?

Obviously, other factors such as the URL structure is key and never underestimate how much a good domain name helps (prefably paid for over a longer period than the standard 2 years).

Its not just a case of picking out high volume terms and then doing battle on those terms - it's all about relevancy to your bsuiness. You will have a far greater rate of success if you focus on your USPs or niche.

By the way, I'm fairly new at BETDAQ but have been around a long time. Our existing SEO is weak, but it will improve quite significantly - I can promise you that.

i would think something like "Champions League betting preview" or "bets on euro 2008 top goal scorer" (longer tail term)

we've seen this type of keywords convert well
