Hi all,
I am the new moderator at the sports betting forum, and I am pleased to be part of the team. Quick breakdown of my background; I am a punter myself combined with interest and past studies conducted into knowing more about the consumption of online gambling and the behavior of punters. Currently I work for the BetBrain, an odds / lines comparison site offering punters a way to find the most value and best prices before they make their betting / investements or whatever you want to call it
I was hoping that some of you might want to start a few discussions around some different sports betting subjets that might be of interest to you. Examples could be:
– Conversion of sports bettors into casino / poker players
– What is the best type of commission structure for a sports betting affiliate?
– What do we know about the different type of punters (how and why they consume sports betting)?
– How important is sports betting as part of the experience we have with watching sports at stadiums, on TV, online?
– What kind of content works best for sports betting affiliate sites? and where can we get this content?
– Etc. Etc. Etc.Cheers,
Rasmus

James, interesting points you have there. But no easy and straightforward discussion of course… so lets hope others want to contribute.
1) The best conversion from poker / casino to sports betting
My main area is acquiring users through a range of sports betting offers and then trying to convert them into poker / casino as well. However, you are interested in the other way around which is a bit more difficult for me to be wise on.But here goes… If you take a look at the December 2007 CAP magazine on page 42-43 you will find an article by me about different types of punters. I believe that one way of converting from casino / poker into sports betting would be to predict similar trends among your site users. For instance, is the site mainly cathering to recreational users then these would be easier to convert into sports betting if you offer them fun incentives such as different competitions sponsored by sportsbooks etc.
Are your users considering themselves as good poker players (but they are not necessarily profitable in the long run) their behaviour could often be rather chance taking even though the odds are against them. This type of player in sports betting is one of the most valuable ones to bookmakers since they turnover large amounts of money only to see a ROI of 90% out of the 100% they have turned over… a loss of 10 %! … One way to convert here could be to offer some tips from your users that is posted on the site… if these picks are decent it would be A LOT less time consuming for a busy poker player to also get invloved in sports betting.
Just some quick examples from my side… I guess what I am saying is that I think we will get far by understanding the players we have using our site… This is definitely not an easy task, and I think we could really benefit from some different poker players writing about their interest in sports betting.
2) Getting value of sports betting exchanges
Not 100 % sure what you are after here… current exchanges in the market encompass Betfair, BetDaq, Betsson, WBX, RedBet, BetOnBet, Matchbook, IbetX, MyBet, TradebetX etc.Are u refering to making money as an affiliate?
3) Link Exchange
I have not been doing a lot of link exchange on BetBrain. Instead we have chosen to create an Iframe product as well as a lot of different widgets that can be used by other affiliates. This has proven highly successful.Anyone got some good success stories on lick exchange with sports betting sites?
Cheers,
Rasmus
