In case you haven’t heard, there are more searches for Bingo than Poker in the UK. See here….. http://www.google.com/trends?q=bingo,poker&geo=gbr&sa=N
Can anyone share some of your experiences?
April 25, 2008 at 9:04 pm #766574AnonymousInactiveThat’s an intersting page you got there – very useful.
However, I do wonder if it’s really saying that there are more bingo searches than poker searches?
Notice that there is no vertical axis scale – so I wonder if both lines are being plotted on seperate scales?
Also look at the individual breakdowns below – poker significantly outscores bingo in every region, every city and also in all english language searches.
So I can’t see how bingo is ahead of poker in the UK – even though the graph says so …
As for whether it can be in the future?I don’t know. Bingo lacks the element to make it a media show – it’s hard to see how they’d format a bingo show to match the proliferation of poker shows.
I think that bingo has a solid niche – but I don’t see it growing into a worldwide fad.

There are several bingo TV channels, and a bingo show coming to ITV. I’ve seen a lot more advertising on TV recently for bingo compared to poker. I guess it could be snapping at the heels of poker on a national level, but interestingly, I saw a report the other day that many women are getting into poker as a result of playing online bingo. There’s the potential for a massive cross over there.
As for a worldwide fad. America has had a couple of Bingo shows recently, and national bingo night is now a series in Australia as well.
April 25, 2008 at 11:17 pm #766588AnonymousInactiveThere also are (or were) Bingo shows in austria and germany, and from where I sit, there is more money in Bingo than poker.
April 26, 2008 at 2:08 am #766610vladcizsolMemberBingo is very popular and make a great additional channel for affiliates to work on. Just be aware that in order to have success you really do need to have dedicated websites/blogs/communities to effectively promote this niche.
Throwing up a few banners or creating a Bingo section of a casino or poker portal will not produce much results.
April 26, 2008 at 2:38 am #766613AnonymousInactiveThere is a good bit of crossover today, but Bingo still primarily is the poker of women.
You go there, play and talk.
The tone is very different of course, as is the primary interest.
In Bingo, you promote a community of friends who enjoy a chance of winning.
In poker, you promote to people wanting to win who enjoy some bantering.
If you think about the size of the female population, and the amount of time available to housewives who can keep a window open to their game all day and have quick games and talks between chores, and the extreme need for adult conversation many mothers have….. you have a huge market.
In Bingo, most older generations already love it, but it’s the young mothers who are a great, largely untapped market.
The younger market in poker is already tapped…
April 26, 2008 at 11:14 am #766631AnonymousInactiveThere have been many big media campaigns for bingo recently which I believe is the reason for these results. For example Sun Bingo have been advertising on and offline a lot recently. Other rooms such as crown bingo have also been advertising on tv a fair bit.
I only ever recall watching a poker ad on channel 5 during some poker show.April 26, 2008 at 2:01 pm #766638AnonymousInactiveIf you come across a contact for sun bingo, please let me know.
They owe me and I can’t contact them and they are not paying….

I take it thats not based on my comment, as Im talking about keywords not bingo chat games that people dont generally search for in any great numbers, especially in comparison to something like “texas holdem” which is a very highly searched poker term in its own right.
Add and compare all poker and bingo terms together and compare the searches,,,,will be much different story.
April 27, 2008 at 4:35 pm #766693AnonymousInactiveBingo terms are not searched near as much as poker terms by any stretch of the imagination.
The poker market, like I said before, has tapped into the younger generations big time.
Bingo has yet to do that.
