Hi,
I’m an rx, porn, and gambling affiliate. Most of what I do is in rx, but I’ve decided to focus more attention on the gambling site.
In porn, sooo many sponsors shaved, it was ridiculous. I expected a little, but they were crazy with that- a lot of dishonest people, though can’t say I didn’t expect at least some. That’s why I put porn on the backburner.
With rx, it hardly ever happens that I’m aware of- much better setup there, just too bad now with new regulations right around the corner and rx PPC ads that’ll be dead next month.
How is shaving in the gambling biz for affiliates compared to porn? Anyone have experience with that?
I did a search, but not much info there. Anyone have a guesstimate how much shaving goes on? I know it depends on the casino, but roughly.

I don’t know about the extent of shaving in porn, but in casinos it is quite bad. Now, not knowing how bad porn is, I don’t know what that statement will mean to you.

I’ve never heard the term before but it doesn’t sound nice.

Shaving is manipulation of statistics.
It means not crediting you with all the players you sent, or all the money they deposited.

2 questions:
Is there a list of casinos who are known to participate in this type of activity?
Can one assume that the certified programs at CAP are not involved in ‘shaving’?

It is impossible to prove shaving, so – no list.
The programs approved by CAP are solid and tested by time. Many affiliates are earning good money with them. They have to meet certain criteria to be admitted.
While that is no guarantee against shaving – there is no such thing – I certainly place more trust in approved, solid programs.
From my extensive experience with casinos, and my more limited experience with rx…
Casinos are far more honest, communicative, and there’s much less to worry about. I still cannot believe how dishonest the rx industry is, it’s full of crooks. Every week a new pharmacy dissapears stealing that months earnings.
There are some crooked casinos, but if you stay with the proven and well known casinos using established software providers (microgaming, boss media, & cryptologic) you should be fine.

Yes, that does happen. But it’s not so common.
They’re not dishonest compared to porn- I really dunno about gambling.
But anyway, thanks antoine- I built my site almost entirely on CAP-certified programs (and whoever owns this is getting some 2nd tier).
I really just need a place to advertise.

Porn- on and off for 2-3 years, it was my first affiliate biz. Mainly AVS sites and free sites. I didn’t give them nearly as much attention as I did Rx more recently because I found it to be a lot more lucrative and you dealt with higher quality people. With the huge signup and revshare bonuses to attract affiliates, they don’t nearly give you credit for as much as you should have- and it’s off by a lot. The worst experience I had was with a company Mallcom, who ran an adult DVD store- I and a few friends placed orders and did not get credit for any of them. Going back and forth with Jerry the affiliate manager was like talking to a brick wall.
If you know of any that don’t shave (yeah right) or shave just a little, I’d be interested. I’ve found porn to be incredibly dishonest with extreme shaving.

The last thing I want to do is recommend a dud. Out of the ones you mentionned the only one I tried was Flynt Digital and it performed well for me.

That’s not taking away from anybody else that posted; I don’t mean it like that at all. – just that our experiences are often the same so I’ve come to place a great deal of confidence in his words.I’ve been out of porn (free sites) for a long time. But have I got some stories…
anyway, I always did well with AdultRevenueService .. or share, something like that, I just remember them as ARS, but things change quickly on the net and you’d not surprise me to say they were a bad choice nowdays.I’d say that there are more cheats than honest in all aspects of when it comes to dealing with online businesses, and that its all-important to do your homework, such as you are doing now; before you make that first turn on the monopoly board.
Personally I like working with the casinos much more than with the majority of porn aff programs because I’ve always tried to concentrate on quality of traffic rather than quantity and I think the casinos appreciate/respect that more than do the porn who think almost totally in terms of amount of traffic sent; rather than the quality of it. *this line of thinking may have changed since back in my days. However, that said; it takes time to earn the respect for the quality of your traffic where as if you went into things sending large numbers, you’ll start out with respect and then only stand to lose it if your traffic proves to not produce players.
I think that casinos demand more time spent between an aff manager and aff; than does porn. This because of the high stakes involved in terms of advertising etc.
As to Cap certified programs; you must take into consideration as Dom said; there is no way of proving 100% that a program is cheating. or isn’t. I beleive what the Prof has tried to do; is to weed out those places that are known for not treating players right; which should be everyone’s main concern, because we start out under the gun, so any adverse publicity hurts all of us.
The closest you’ll come to positive proof a place is cheating; is by sending testers to signup and play. What works much better is to get a few big players to keep you informed of where they’re playing and a general idea of how much they’re playing.
it’s my experience that if you can get them to contact you once; that they will happily stay in touch after that because they know they’ll get top service if something ever goes wrong.
