"There's no doubt that there's a substantial number of young people who are participating on these illegal gambling sites," he told CTV.ca on Wednesday.

He also cited another problem: the impact on the province's horseracing industry. The Criminal Code makes an exception for online racetrack betting.

Canada will in my opinion eventually be more repressive
than the Americans regarding this issue.

Notice they always claim that the laws are for your
own good yet they neglect a thousand other things that
    can really benefit a population.

What's with the horse racing exception all the time ?

Ontario is run by the "Liberal" Party. The "Conservitive party" runs Canada on the federal level.

Jeff Leal, Peterborough, Liberal Party of Ontario. This is the person responsible for the current legislation change. At the start of the year everyone was worried that if a conservative government were elected they would propose these types of laws, however it is the "Liberal" party that is doing the damage.

This is not the only thing the Ontario Liberal Party have banned, they have also banned CKC registered Staffordshire bull terriers(Yes I have one) even thou there is not 1 reported incident of these dogs biting anyone (Talking about hospital bites as all others can not be used for statistical purposes). They did not however ban dogs that have caused the deaths of several children.

It goes to show all is not what it seems as the Liberal Party is the Party that bans while the conservative party were against the targeted banning of specific breeds. The Conservative party were more interested in the dog control that was introduced in Alberta (Conservative run province). In my opinion the Alberta dog control should have been used as there has been a significant reduction in dog bites in that province.

I am so sick of the Liberal party $%!@ing up this country so I wish they would sink to the bottom of the ocean along with the Republicans in the USA. It is time to give the Conservative party a break and take note of who the CURRENT enemy is.
    Regards,

    Nobluff.

Speaking from some level of knowledge as a previous trainer of police dogs, dogs are the extension of the owner, regardless of breed.

Occasionally there are dogs of any breed with a mental defect that will be violent, same as humans beings.

All others depend on correct upbringing and human guidance to function properly in a human world. Left to their own instincts exclusively, dogs are prone to misinterpret certain situations. Usually the dog that acts overly defensive or aggressive is the result of the owner's training or lack thereof.

The breed most likely to bite is the Chihuahua, not because of it's belonging to that breed, but because the diminuative size makes it feel threatened most easily.

Breed banning is a bunch of crap and prejudice by ignorant people, and I do see the parallel to banning of online gambling.

In both cases regulation would be much more useful, and in both cases banning will only encourage an underground industry of doubtful integrity.

    Nuts.

I remember hearing about Ontario banning certain dog breeds and it pissed me off. There are certain dog breeds who are more predisposed to violence. But how dogs behave is based almost entirely on how they are raised. It doesn't matter what type of dog you have if the dog is given love and plenty of food then there will not be any issues.

If a dog is treated like crap and is biologically predisposed to agression than yes it can cause problems. But to ban of all of a certain breed is short sighted.

This week in on a native reserve in northern alberta Canada 5 dogs attacked and mauled to death a 5 year old. This had happened on this same reserve several years ago. People are shocked and want to put the dogs down. While I cant blame them for wanting to get revenge, the blame should be entirely with the owners. The dogs were obviously starving and ill treated. It happens that a dog gets away from thier owner, but this should never be a problem unless the animal is mis-treated.

    Sorry to get off topic!

I live in Ontario Canada , specifically Toronto .It makes me mad to see them down at Queens Park (Provincial Government Buildings) passing bills to stop online gambling ads when people will freeze to death in the streets this winter as they do every year.

Gambling winnings are tax exempt in canada so I think they governments are starting to realise they need to get a piece of this online gambling pie.Local newspapers have written articles lately suggesting ontario may be leaning towards opening online versions of Casino Rama ,Niagra etc.

Canadians are not home free on this gambling issue. I have copies of correspondence between scotiabank and a former customer of theirs who is suing them.Scotiabank closed their bank account because they had $1000 a week in firepay and this person won $15,000 in a 5 week period. The wires in the account put them on the radar.Scotiabank lawyer stated USA GAMBLING LAWS and the fact 30% of their holdings are in USA as a reason they made a 'business decision' not to allow any gaming transactions through their bank accounts.

Usemybank has already had to go to court to keep their business alive in canada . http://www.canlii.org/ca/cas/cact/2005/2005cact38.html

If we don't get Steven Harper out next time , we will probably be going through the same stuff. The planet is probably in the worst shape it has ever been in , seniors are freezing to death in their homes , going without medication. There is not enough home care for those who need it. People in Canada have to go to USA for cancer treatments or die here waiting and The Province of Ontario decides they have to make a move on gambling.

Way to go Dalton McGuinty ,Dont even get me started on the gangs and violence in the city , ONTARIO HYDRO Debt and the Farmer's issues. We need real people in politics , not those with trust funds and in the pockets of the corporate workers.

Oh and my oldest daughter is in 9th grade in the public school system and the only way they get any activities is if we cover the costs .Last year the free school system cost me $800.00 cash to suppliment what was suppose to be covered in the $3900.00 I paid in property tax on my home or maybe it was the $11304.82 in income tax I paid that was suppose to cover it.

Sorry Professor if this is not suppose to be here but had to add my 2 cents

I agree Canadas citizens have a ridiculous tax burden. But I would still prefer living here than in the USA, but the preference margin is pretty small. If clinton was still in office I would move to Florida or California.

But facing reality... North America sucks. I'm trying to finalize everything here and figure out where is better to move to, the south pacific or the caribbean. The only disadvantage with the caribbean is that it's so close to the states.
