Ok.. time to show my ignorance..

My hosting provider is Rochess.net.. kool guy, takes Neteller, worked for me this far… He is also super helpful, and will install different things to my site for me if I have trouble…

But I have started about 8 sites thus far, and today (HOORAY! ME!) I won http://www.itsabingo.com from Rev Giants :) :) (Thnx Roo!!)

Soooo I started to IM my hosting guy, to add another site.. and another hosting bill.. Isn’t there an easier way? Does everyone pay a seperate hosting bill for each and every domain name? To be perfectly honest, I’ve lost track of how much I am paying to host all of these sites.. but its a decent lil chunk.. isnt there some package deal? I mean what you’re really buying is space on a server right? Can I just buy a buncha space, and then use it for several names.. or am I living at the end of a rainbow thinking this is how it should work :P

Shameless Plug: I use hostgator. (my affiliate link is attached. :) )I pay 10 dollars a month and am able to control everything myself with cpanelx. You can add domains, subdomains, mysql databases, email accounts, ftp and fantastico easily and most everything is unlimited. (Lots more stuff also, but that is the main things I use.) Also 24/7 support

$10 a month ?!?!? .. As far as hosting go’s I am truely clueless.. I pay the bill, I ftp, or use CMS control panels, and the site is there where i leave it :P .. For ten bux a month (I’m sure I’m paying hundreds…) What can I expect to change?

Don’t suppose they take Neteller lol, does anyone.. what can I say, I’m not Visa worthy.. spoze I could go to the bank and get one.. but I’m a girl true to my sex.. give me plastic, and I shall shop ;)

Thnx for the super fast awesome reply :)

They take paypal and credit card. I got a month free and I am actually still on that. I wanted to see how it went and so far the experience has been great. I researched alot before I went with them and many people really liked their hosting and had been with them for years.

Oh one more thought… I used to use godaddy and rochess both.. but when godaddy informed me it would cost me 150 to have my site restored.. during that period i was getting hacked every other day or so.. i switched up to rochess only.. he backs my site up and restores it for free… the sites that use a CMS have a mySQL back option.. but i dunno what to do with the file that it creates aside from give it to Rochess when I get hacked to get the site up a bit faster..

Backups are important to me too hehe.. and 450 a week to restore mah site is deffinately not an option :P

Me too…moving my sites was the thing that was keeping me with my old host. But after you sign up and as long as you have ftp access to your old account. You can give them that information and they will transfer everything for free to your new host gator account.

We offer 24/7/365 phone support, 99.9% uptime, and have a 30 day money back guarantee. Your site will be on a top of the line Dual Xeon server that provides INSTANT backups of your site

Thats it, instant backups.. I think I’m sold.. why didnt I ask this question months ago.. as soon as http://www.itsabingo.com is finalized I do belive I shall be switching hosts.. might as well go ahead and wait till mid june to move my exsisting sites i suppose.. does it much matter either way?

Any downsides to the move… anyone have any thoughts? Help me out here.. my blonde streaks are showing ..

    hehehehe

I don’t like using my regular bank visa online, so I have a prepaid visa I use online exclusively. It’s helps me keep track of costs and everything, as well as limiting my exposure should a database get hacked. I use it with Neteller and Paypal as well. Lady Holdem would you mind to share what CMS you´re using? If you don´t want to post for security reasons then please PM me, I think your sites look great.

As far as hosting is concerned I did complain about bluehost the other day but they have taken care of my issues in the meantime so I can recommend them. 7$ a month by the way :wavey:

Hiya, I was reading all of your hesitation (and rightfully so) with moving your sites. Why not sign up with the new host and move one of your sites over and see how it goes. 2 months at ~$10 or so is a small price to pay for the peace of mind of knowing what it will be like once you move all your sites over. Of course if all of your sites use a common SQL backend or something then maybe this isn’t an option.

Moving one would allow to to test drive the new host and see how they are with backups/speed/reliability etc. In fact, I would pick your smallest site and then really test all the features you need by asking for a restore to see how long it takes, emailing support with some “urgent” question you need answered to see how long it takes to get a reply, how long it takes to get a tech who actually knows what they are doing on the phone if you have a problem etc.

Just consider you are doing a review on the host and approach it with the same detail. A phased approach rather than an all or nothing cutover is usually the best policy when you are dealing with revenue generating sites and new vendors of any type.

    Hope this helps,

    CBW

    Good points cbwhores.

I also have looked at hostgator and have emailed them a question. I have decided to take that same trek you suggested. I am not unhappy with my hosting but do see where this one would save me some overall money. So hence the interest in switching.

Off line = no money so that is a concern. Also being off line for a prolong period could be devastating. I would make sure new host is up and running before contacting your current host.

(As I type this I get answer to email I sent support in less than an hour. I guess part 1 passed! :colgate: )
